Teaching Philosophy with Technology

Teaching Philosophy with Technology Component

Progressivism provides the base line for my personal philosophy for teaching. I believe in this philosophy because it is liberal by nature and allows for the teacher to play a strong role in the guidance of the learner while finding the balance for the student to have free thought and self realization. I believe within these parameters that students are then allowed to form their own ideas from the information that is presented to them thus engaging them to be active learners for real world thought. This type of freedom for student opens the door to the world and allows the exploration into unknowns which will provide them the essential skills required to function in today’s society both in business and personal situations. This provides a more complete student learning process with real life skills acquired. Students are actively involved in their learning outcome which to me is a very important piece to their overall education.

Physical education is a critical component of a student’s life. My physical education classroom will be one where students learn about the how and why of their body during physical activity. This will be done by brief lessons and explanations about the body before, during, or after an activity takes place. The classroom will teach students the activities that will allow them the opportunities to be healthy over the course of a lifetime while enjoying themselves. Students will learn teamwork while still using independent thought to accomplish goals. Leaders will emerge and others will be encouraged to lead through these activities.

Within this philosophy technology plays an essential role. In addition to the acquiring the skills to be healthy for a lifetime students must be able to be active in their world. Technology grows everyday and students must not be left behind. The physical education classroom is not spared in its ability to teach students about technology. Interactive activities such as Wii or webquests get students involved in current technology. Heart rate monitors provide instant feedback to students about their personal health and allow for them to track their progress toward a healthy lifestyle over time.

The role for me as a teacher is to also keep with the newest methods of teaching and keeping students engaged as well as continuously acquiring knowledge in regards to the newest technologies that are applicable to the physical education classroom. Learning is a two way street. I will do my best to provide the best environment possible for learning and learner must enter ready and willing to accept learning in whatever means presented.
